New Name, Same Mission
On August 1, 2023, Western Colorado Community College began its transition to its new name CMU Tech. While CMU’s dual mission of providing 4-year traditional degree options as well as career and technical education courses stays the same, the name change hopes to bring better understanding around the relationship between the two campuses by aligning CMU and CMU Tech under one umbrella.
By realigning WCCC to CMU Tech, more students will be able to learn about and access the hands-on training and practical skills necessary to succeed in a growing economy where trade and technical skills are needed. We are paving the way to the future with the evolution CMU Tech.
CMU Tech is committed to student success. Whether you are interested in an associate degree, a certificate, customized industry training or a change in your career options, we are here to serve you. Our faculty members are experts in their chosen field and have substantial formal education and training. Our excellent facility and classrooms contribute to a quality learning environment.

Return on Investment
Many degrees and certificates offered at CMU Tech can be earned at little or no cost to students. Funding is available from state programs, private scholarships and from businesses who need high quality employees and professionals. Jobs in the areas of health care, energy infrastructure, construction-related trades, and many other fields, have never been more affordable and accessible. And all of these industries offer high-quality jobs and high pay for students when they graduate. Because CMU Tech programs cost very little, the return on investment is high — both in terms of the time it takes to earn a degree or certificate, and the reduced cost to students. Most CMU Tech programs are also offered at a nearly 40% reduced tuition.
